WACO, Texas - Seven games against 2003 bowl teams highlight Baylor University's 2004 football schedule announced today by Athletics Director Ian McCaw and Head Football Coach Guy Morriss.
"We are looking forward to the season and the opportunity to compete against some of the nation's finest teams," said Morriss, whose program will face seven bowl teams for the second consecutive year. "I like the challenges that this schedule provides as we continue to build our program."
For the fifth time in the last seven years the Bears will open the season on the road, as they'll kickoff the school's 103rd grid campaign Sept. 4 at Alabama-Birmingham. Baylor then returns home to Floyd Casey Stadium to face Texas State (Sept. 11) and 2003 New Orleans Bowl participant North Texas (Sept. 25) for Parents Weekend.
Six of BU's eight Big 12 Conference contests will be against teams that earned bowl invitations a year ago. The Bears travel to Texas (Holiday Bowl) for the Oct. 2 league opener, then return home to host Missouri (Independence Bowl, Oct. 9) before playing at 2003 Alamo Bowl champion Nebraska (Oct. 16).
Baylor's annual homecoming game is set for Oct. 23 against Iowa State, while Texas A&M visits Waco for the 101st meeting in the Battle of the Brazos on Oct. 30.
November will see the Bears close the regular season against three consecutive bowl teams. BU plays at Houston Bowl champion Texas Tech Nov. 6 and at Oklahoma State (Cotton Bowl) Nov. 13 before closing the year in Waco against Oklahoma (Sugar Bowl), Nov. 20.
