WACO, Texas - This weekend Baylor's Tennis Center will once again be hosting a major tournament with individuals from 20 teams competing in the H-E-B Intercollegiate. Teams from all over the nation will be traveling to Waco to test their skills against Baylor, the reigning Big 12 champions and last year's ITA ranked No. 4 team in the nation. Play begins at 8:30 a.m. on Friday and continues through the weekend. The championship matches are slated to begin noon on Sunday followed by the doubles championship at 4 p.m.
The tournament is split into gold and green brackets for both the singles and doubles. The top seeded players will compete in the gold bracket; consisting of approximately 60 players in singles and 30 teams in doubles. The green bracket will have 27 players in singles and nine teams in the doubles. The bears have three of the top five seeds in the tournament: No.1 Benedikt Dorsch, No. 2 Benjamin Becker, and No. 5 Ivor Lovrak. In doubles the Bears have the No.1 duo of Dorsch and Lovrak.
Joining Baylor at the tournament will be players from: Arkansas, Brown, Boise State, Colorado, Georgia Tech, Lamar, Louisiana Lafayette, New Mexico, Portland, SMU, TCU, Temple, Texas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Tech, Tulane, SMU, UT-San Antonio, Wichita State, and Winthrop.
The Bears return seven out of nine players from last season's 4th-ranked team. Standouts for the new season include Benedikt Dorsch, ranked No.1 nationally in preseason rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), along with Benjamin Becker, Ivor Lovrak, and newcomer Matija Zgaga, all ranked in the top 100.
