Four BU Men's Tennis Players Selected for NCAAs

For the first time in the program's history four Baylor men's tennis players have been selected to the singles draw of the NCAA Tennis Tournament. In addition, the team qualified a doubles team.

Sophomores Benedikt Dorsch, the tournament's No. 2 seed, and Benjamin Becker, senior Zoltan Papp and junior Matias Marin all were selected for singles and Dorsch and junior Reiner Neurohr enter the 32-draw doubles tournament. Becker and Papp are alternates for the doubles.

This is just the third time in the program's history that Baylor has sent more than one singles player to the tournament. Becker and Papp will be making their second appearance, both advanced to the round of 32 last year before losing. Also, Johann Jooste and current Baylor assistant coach Pawel Gajdzik were selected in 1999.

Vida Mulec, the lone ranked Baylor women's player, was not selected to play in the tournament. The women's team (11-12) will play No. 19 Clemson (18-5) at 9 a.m. Sat., May 10 in a regional at Chapel Hill, N.C. The winner of that match will play the winner of the North Carolina/College of Charleston match.

The Baylor men (25-1), and the No. 2 seed in the team draw, will face UT-Arlington (13-10) at 7 p.m. Fri., May 9 at the Baylor Tennis Center. In the other first-round match, 24th-ranked TCU (15-8) will play former Southwest Conference rival SMU (16-11) at 3 p.m.

The second-round match will be on Sat., May 10 at 6 p.m. The winner the the second round match advances to the final site May 17-20 in Athens, Ga. Singles and doubles will begin on May 21.

Ticket prices for the Baylor regional will be $10 for premium seating, $5 for adults and $3 for students each day. Tournament passes also are available for $15, $8 and $5. For ticket information, contact the Baylor Athletic Ticket Office, 254-710-1234 or 1-800-BAYLORU.
