Men's Tennis Advances to Semis

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Baylor's men's tennis team raised its record to 23-1 overall with a 4-0 victory over Nebraska in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament. All matches were scheduled to be played at the Plaza Tennis Center, but the first two sessions of the day were moved to indoor courts because of rainy conditions. The Bears and the Huskers played their match at the Westside Racquet Club in Westwood, Kansas.

It didn't take the Bears, currently ranked No. 5 nationally, long to eliminate the Huskers from the tournament.In doubles Benedikt Dorsch and Reiner Neurohr and Matias Marin and Ivor Lovrak downed their opponents, 8-2, 8-3, respectively.

By gaining the doubles point, the Bears only needed to win three singles matches to claim victory. Baylor's top three spots breezed through their matches each winning in straight sets. At No. 1 Benjamin Becker streaked by D.J. Geatz, 6-2, 6-4 and Benedikt Dorsch whipped Florian Preissler, 6-2, 6-2. Zoltan Papp defeated Joerg Barthel at No. 3, 6-3, 6-4. In tournament play, once a team has won the match all play is then halted.

The Bears now move to the semifinals to face Texas A&M at 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Aggies defeated Texas Tech 4-0. Baylor posted a 4-3 win over the Aggies in Waco on April 15.
