Dorsch Named Player of the Week

WACO, Texas - Sophomore Benedikt Dorsch of Weiden, Germany, joins Kansas State junior Hayley McIver of Deception Bay Australia, and Oklahoma junior Anda Perianu of Braila, Romania, as Big 12 Conference Men's and Co-Women's Tennis Players of the Week for matches from Apr. 8-14, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Dorsch continues his and his team's march toward a Big 12 titles for the sixth-ranked Bears, 20-1 overall and 6-0 in the Big 12. He downed a pair of ranked opponents in singles and stopped two other foes in doubles to complete a 4-0 run. Dorsch defeated No. 87 Lukasz Sencyszym of SMU 6-1, 6-1 in No. 1 singles and later downed Texas' Jean Simon (No. 31 in Division I singles) 6-2, 6-4. In doubles he teamed with Reiner Neurohr for wins over the Mustangs and Longhorns while running the tandem's doubles mark to 17-2. The splendid soph is 40-2 (.952) for the 2002-03 academic year to set a BU record for most singles victories.

Dorsch joins teammate Zoltan Papp in winning Big 12 Player of the Week honors this season. Papp earned Player of the Week kudos on March 18.
