WACO, TX - Baylor men's tennis team, ranked No. 4 nationally, posted a 7-0 victory over the No. 72 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday evening in Waco, raising their conference record to 3-0, 14-1 overall.
The Bears gained the doubles point with all three doubles teams posting victories. Becker and Papp, playing at No. 2, defeated Oklahoma's Matt Ogle and Brad Prigmore 8-5. Next, Lovrak and Garcia defeated Alexei Ivanov and Matt Long 8-6. Last to finish, at the top doubles spot, were Dorsch and Neurohr, ranked No. 40 nationally, who swept past Chris Mitchell and Tommy Garrison 8-3.
The Bears earned all six singles points having only one position go more than two sets. #86 Reiner Neurohr playing at No. 5 position, was the first Bear to walk off the court after defeating Tommy Garrison, 6-4, 6-1. Next to finish was #1 Benedikt Dorsch serving a 6-1, 6-2 win over Chris Mitchell, at No. 2, while #89 Benjamin Becker posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Silviu Tanasoiu at the No. 4 spot, and clenched the win for the Bears. Then, playing at No. 1, #36 Zoltan Papp swept past Alexei Ivanov 6-3, 6-3. Finishing fourth, #37 Matias Marin slipped to Matt Ogle in the first set 4-6, but came back for the win with a score of 7-5 in the second set and 10(6) in the tie-breaker in the No. 3 spot. Last to walk off the court was Barry McLaren at the No. 6 spot, defeating Alex Nomicos 7-5, 6-4.
Next up for the Bears is a match on Sun., March 16 at 2 p.m. when they host Oklahoma State University at the Baylor Tennis Center.
