WACO, Texas - Baylor junior Benjamin Becker defeated Izak van der Merwe of Old Dominion 2-6, 7-6 (4) 7-6 (4) in the first round of the ITA National Indoor Championships Thursday, November 6.

Becker will compete against the No. 10 player in the nation Catalin Gard of Mississippi in the second round, at a yet to announced time Friday, November 7.

In 2001, Becker advanced to the final round of the indoor championships before being defeated by Minnesota's Harsh Mankad.
