WACO, Texas - Men's tennis had another great showing at the Icy Hot/ITA Men's All-American Championships in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Friday. Jason Gould and Matija Zgaga, both advanced in the pre-qualifiers round.
Gould, defeated John Gamble of Chattanooga, 6-4, 6-3, then came back to defeat Peter Bjork of Colorado 0-6, 6-4, 6-2. Gould's next match will be tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Lee Walker of Memphis.
Matija Zgaga, the tournament's No. 1 seed in pre-qualifiers, had an opening round bye to start the tournament. In his first match Zgaga defeated Sanzaruz Zaman of UAB, 6-4, 6-1. Zgaga's next match will be tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Federico Ueltschi of Montana State.
Jon Reckewey, was the only player not to advance in the pre-qualifiers round losing 6-4, 6-4 to James Spence of Memphis.
Doubles play begins tomorrow at noon with the duo of Gould and Reckewey, competing against Zach Dailey and Lewis Smith of Vanderbilt.
