WACO, Texas (AP) - Vince Young ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns Saturday night as No. 19 Texas wrapped up a rugged October with a 56-0 win over Baylor.
Young and Longhorns (6-2, 3-1 Big 12) set the offense on cruise control from the start, rolling to a 35-0 halftime lead in the freshman's second start at quarterback. It was Texas' first shutout of the season and its second in a row over Baylor (3-5, 1-3).
It was also Texas' second consecutive easy win since a crushing 65-13 loss to Oklahoma on Oct. 11. The victory sends the Longhorns into a tough November stretch with games against No. 14 Nebraska, No. 18 Oklahoma State and in-state rivals Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
Baylor was an easy warmup for the coming month as Texas outgained the Bears 477-260 despite missing starting tailback Cedric Benson. He didn't make the 99-mile trip from Austin after being charged earlier in the week with misdemeanor criminal trespassing.
The Longhorns didn't miss him in front of a crowd of 42,118, at least half of whom wore burnt orange. Senior Brett Robin got his first career start and he and Selvin Young combined for 93 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries.
Vince Young finished with 166 total yards and set up Robin's second TD with a weaving 64-yard run inside the Baylor 1 in the third quarter. His rushing total sent him past Benson as the team leader with 550 yards this season.
Baylor had hoped its 42-30 win over Colorado three weeks ago would launch the beleaguered Bears to a new era of winning under first-year head coach Guy Morriss. Three straight losses have followed instead.
Baylor showed highlights of the Colorado game on the giant scoreboard replay screen before the opening kickoff. But any inspiration was quickly squandered when Aaron Karas was sacked and fumbled on the opening drive. Texas' Derrick Johnson recovered and pitched it to Nathan Vasher who returned it to Baylor 11.
Robin scored four plays later and Vince Young added his rushing touchdowns from 1 and 2 yards. Young's second TD came on 1st-and-goal when he rolled right, backtracked to his left and split two defenders who appeared to have him nailed at the goal line.
Chance Mock, who started the first six games, came off the bench to throw two touchdown passes, including a 41-yard strike to Roy Williams who fought through two tacklers to get to the end zone.
