WACO, Texas - Baylor University will host a press conference for the Kyle Woods Steering Committee, at 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 25, on the Grant Teaff Plaza at Floyd Casey Stadium prior to the Bears game against the Texas Longhorns. Woods is a former Baylor football player who was injured during a practice at Floyd Casey Stadium in August, 1979.
Woods' serious injury rendered him a quadriplegic. Because of Kyle's faith, determination, and positive attitude, he became an inspiration to his teammates and coaches during the 1979 Peach Bowl Champion Season and the undefeated 1980 Southwest Conference Championship season.
Though confined to a wheelchair, Woods has completed his education and remains a great inspiration to his family, teammates and coaches. In the 23 years since his injury, Kyle has had a positive influence on literally thousands of people.
Kyle's teammates, coaches, and friends made a decision that a new home designed with full accessibility for Kyle and his caregivers was needed. With Baylor University's backing that need will be met. Kyle Woods Steering Committee was formed and has moved forward with the project. The Steering Committee includes Scott Smith, Radar Holt, L.M. Dyson and Grant Teaff.
"The importance of this project cannot be measured, because to literally change someone's living environment is immeasurable; however, the encouragement and support for this project by Dr. Sloan, the Baylor staff, and faculty is deeply appreciated," said Teaff, the winningest football coach in school history. "The Baylor faculty is involved in this project, as noted Professor L.M. Dyson will serve as our general contractor.
"Saturday's press conference will open the door for hundreds across the nation, who through their generosity and kindness will join Kyle's coaches, teammates and friends, as we make this worthy project a reality," he added.
