Waco, Texas - Baylor cross country head coach Todd Harbour took his men's and women's team to compete in the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Waterloo, Iowa on Saturday and both teams performed well. The meet, held at the Irv Warren Golf Course, featured 21 of the nation's top 30 women's teams and 22 of the country's top 30 men's teams. The competition was split among two races for men and two for women. Both of Baylor's teams competed in the Purple Races.
The 14th-ranked women's team finished 10th in the 32-team Purple Race with 332 points, top-ranked Brigham Young won the race with 86 points. Freshman Brittany Brockman was Baylor's top finisher for the second time this season. She was clocked in a season-best 21:14 for the 6,000-meter race which placed her 36th among the 210 runners. Sophomore Angela Marvin placed 41st at 21:19, sophomore Lisa Cornelius was 48th at 21:24, Erin Dixon, a senior, placed 103rd with a time of 22:07 and freshman Monique Ortega completed Baylor's scoring with a time of 22:08, good for 104th.
Baylor's men's team finished 23rd in the 35-team purple race with 572 points. Fourth-ranked Brigham Young won the purple race with 25 points. Senior Matt Chance led the Bears over the 8K course with a time of 24:35 which placed him 63rd. Rob Morrow clocked in at 24:56, Bo Price finished in 24:59, Jason Baker ran 25:22, Kyle King timed in 25:35 and Mitch Sanders finished in 25:50.
Next up for the Baylor runners will be the Big 12 Championships on Friday, Oct. 31. The championships are hosted by the University of Texas and will be contested at the Barton Creek Lakeside Country Club. The men's 8,000 meter competition will begin at 9:00 a.m. and the women's 6,000 meter race will begin at 10:00 a.m.
