Three of Baylor's head coaches spoke to the media at Tuesday's press luncheon. Below are excerpts from their comments.
Head Cross Country Coach Todd Harbour:
On the upcoming Big 12 Championships:
"We're heading to the Big 12 meet this weekend in Columbia. Both our squads are ready to go; we've been looking forward to this all year... The ladies finished sixth last year, and the men finished fourth; that's the best finish the men have had."
"Both teams have done an outstanding job this year. They've beat some ranked teams at times... We've got a lot of guys who just get after it and are ready to go... It's supposed to be a little cold there, in the 30s and 40s on race day, but we should be ready to go."
Head Volleyball Coach Brian Hosfeld:
On the season to date:
"We're not matching up well with anyone right now. We lost another freshman [Kelly Spriggs] to mono. We're down to the bare bones; we have eight people suiting up. We'll use the competitions to go out and try to make things happen."
"We've been through a lot of adversities, probably more this year than any other time since I've been here. But we're going to keep going out there and giving it a shot."
Head Football Coach Kevin Steele:
On this week's game against Texas Tech:
"Defensively, we need to keep it rolling. We've got a big shift this week in Texas Tech. We've played two of the most prolific running games in Colorado and Kansas State; now we shift to the passing game of Texas Tech. Our pass defense has gotten better each week, and our rush defense has stayed steady."
On Baylor's offense:
"Offensively, Robert Quiroga and Reggie Newhouse have been playing lights out... At the quarterback position, it's going to be day-to-day. I think at this point that Aaron [Karas] is going to be able to play."
"Josh [Zachry]... probably will not be cleared to play again. With his fifth concussion, it looks like the end of his playing days. He will still be around here helping us with the younger guys."
On Texas Tech:
"They're gonna come after us. I'm sure they'll blitz us every way they can; they like to do that... Offensively, you can see six guys have caught over 25 balls... That's getting the ball to a lot of people in a lot of ways. Henderson, their running back, is their leading receiver... That is kind of their running game, if you will... Kingsbury is a pretty prolific guy, good at what he does... He scores from anywhere on the field... When it's on the line, he delivers."
"I don't think anyone wants to get in a scoring duel in any game, but especially with Kliff Kingsbury at quarterback."
On Baylor's kicking game:
"Jeremy [Parker] just had a bad day. He's a good kicker with a strong leg. He's hit some well, and some not so well. He had a bad day, and he got frustrated. Danny [Andino] came in and kicked well."
