Two Baylor Student-Athletes Honored By Big 12

WACO, Texas - Baylor student-athletes Mark Williams (tennis) and Kerry O'Bric (track) were honored as recipients of Big 12 Conference postgraduate scholarships, the league announced Thursday.
Williams, a senior majoring in finance and information systems, earlier this spring earned his second-straight academic all-district selection with a 3.91 grade point average. During his senior season, the Perth, Australia native broke the school records for career singles wins and career doubles wins while earning all-Big 12 accolades in singles and doubles. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association District VI honored Williams with the Arthur Ashe Award while nominating him for the national Rafael Osuna Award, both distinctions are given based on sportsmanship and leadership.
The school record holder in the heptathlon with 5,481 points at the 2001 Big 12 Conference Championships, O'Bric finished sixth at the 2000 NCAA Championships in the heptathlon. She carries a 3.75 grade point average in chemistry and is currently ranked 14th in the NCAA in the heptathlon. O'Bric was named first-team academic all-Big 12 and academic all-district this season.
A record 13 student-athletes received the $5,000 scholarships from the conference. Criteria for the award include a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5, participation in at least two years of varsity athletics and completion of athletics' eligibility.
Baylor and Iowa State each earned two awards. Other scholarship recipients include: Nicole Cavarra (Colorado women's golf), Gina Curtis (Iowa State track and field), Amie Finker-Jorgensen (Nebraska track and field), Sunny Gilbert (Missouri track and cross country), Brice Libel (Kansas State football), Alfred Mansour (Texas A&M swimming), Paul Shirley (Iowa State men's basketball), Kris Stockton (Texas football), Stephanie Webb (Oklahoma track and field), Sarah Wells (Oklahoma State track and cross country), and Ashley Wysong (Missouri track and field).
