WACO, Texas - The Baylor tennis teams totaled five spots in the latest individual rankings released Monday by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
Three Baylor women earned rankings in singles. Junior Katja Kovac jumped from No. 35 to No. 19, the highest ranking of her career. Kovac passed teammate Jahnavi Parekh, a senior, who dropped eight spots to No. 26. Sophomore Vida Mulec fell nine spots to No. 50, despite a 4-1 spring record.
The doubles team of freshman Alison Bradley and sophomore Monica Gonzalez earned its first ITA ranking, coming in at No. 43. The ranking was the first in either singles or doubles for either player.
The Baylor men's doubles team of freshman Reiner Neurohr and senior Mark Williams dropped one spot to No. 5 in the nation. The team entered the polls at No. 20 before fall play, then jumped to No. 4 in December.
Neurohr and Williams, who ranked Nos. 91 and 92 in the December singles rankings, respectively, both fell out of the polls. This marks the first time the Baylor men have not had a ranked singles player since September 1997.
The Baylor women's team placed 18th in the ITA rankings released last Wednesday, the Baylor men ranked 19th. The next ITA team rankings will be released Wednesday.
The Baylor women will participate in the National Team Indoors Thursday through Sunday in Madison, Wisc. The Baylor men's team has a week off before beginning Big 12 Conference play Feb. 23 at Nebraska.
