Matias Marin, Zoltan Papp and Markus Hornung all won their third round matches in the prequalifying tournament of the ITA All-American Championships on Saturday to raise their tournament singles records to 3-0 each. On Friday they posted two wins each in the tourney, held at the Lincoln Tennis Center in Stone Mountain, Georgia.
Marin defeated UNC-Greensboro's Paul Goode (7-5, 6-3) while Papp beat Ben Cox of Michigan (7-5, 6-2). Hornung had Baylor's only three-set match of the day when he defeated Pablo Sahagun of East Tennessee State by scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-2.
In doubles action Cory Ross and Marin won their two matches of the day. In first round play they beat the Butler team of Kurz/Weaver, 8-4. The duo continued their winning ways in the second round defeating TCU's Brandi/Wajnberg in a hard-fought match, 9-8 (5). They will play Florida State's Gerrera/Jurd on Sunday in third round action.
The Bears participating in the UT-San Antonio Fall Classic weren't quite as successful on day two as their teammates were in Georgia. After winning first and second round matches on Friday, Nathan McGregor, Mike Garcia and Armando Carrascosa all lost their quarterfinal singles contests.
The doubles team of Garcia/McGregor have made it to the doubles finals after winning two matches on Saturday. They will play Texas A&M's Jarin Skube and Khaled El Dorry on Sunday at 11:00 a.m.
