WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team announced the addition of two players for the spring semester on Friday. Freshmen Matias Marin and Nathan McGregor have joined the Bears and will likely particpate in Baylor's first tournament of the spring, Jan. 19-21 at the Rice Invitational.
Marin comes to the Bears from Rosario, Argentina, where he was ranked No. 1 in the country in Boys 18s in 1999. He has played in both the World Youth Cup in Italy and in the Junior French Open. Marin has been ranked in the ITF top 100 in both singles and doubles.
McGregor joins the Baylor team from St. Peter's Catholic College in MacArthur, Australia. There, he ranked among the top 10 players in Australia and was No. 1 in his state. McGregor's experience includes a run in the Junior Australian Open and an undefeated stretch at No. 1 singles playing for his state in Australia's prestigious Pizzey Cup. He was state champion in both singles and doubles.
"Both of these guys can make an immediate impact on the team," Baylor head coach Matt Knoll said. "Nathan can contribute in doubles and will have a chance to see time in singles. Matias will have an immediate impact in singles and probably will play doubles, too."
