Men's Tennis Reps Advance at ITA Region VI Tourney

FORT WORTH, Texas - Three members of the Baylor men's tennis team won on Friday to advance to the Round of 32 the ITA Region VI Tournament, hosted by TCU.
Senior Mark Williams, ranked No. 68 in the nation, received a first-round bye as the No. 16 seed. In the second round, Williams bounced back from a first-match loss to beat Tomi Winnig of Louisiana-Lafayette, 6-7, 6-1, 6-3. Williams now advances to Round of 32 where he will play Tiago Acevedo of Arkansas, the No. 17 seed, Saturday morning.
Freshman Cory Ross won his first two rounds on Friday, starting with a win over Max Dounaev of UTSA, 7-6, 6-2 in the first round. In the second round, Ross upset 59th-ranked Cody Hubbell of Texas A&M, 6-3, 6-4. Ross moves to the Round of 32 where he will face No. 25 seed Jorge Haro of Texas on Saturday.
After a first-round bye, freshman Reiner Neurohr defeated Tom Macquet of UTSA, 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the Round of 32. Neurohr will face SMU's Jon Wallmark, the No. 3 seed, on Saturday.
Sophomore Sean O'Connor won his first round match but lost his second round to No. 9 seed Craig Edmondson of Texas. Sophomore Mike Garcia lost in the first round, and junior Csongor Bibza lost in the second round after a first round bye. O'Connor, Garcia and Bibza drop to consolation play on Saturday.
Bibza and Ross teamed to win their first doubles match Friday, while Garcia and O'Connor lost in the first round.
